[ANGELA] Chaidh mi fhèin 's mo mhàthair dhan àite-bìdh ùr, An Caladh, aig a' chidhe, an oidhche roimhe. Bha sinn ag iarraidh iasg math, ùr ithe.
A-nis tha mo mhàthair dhen t-seann sgoil Ghàidhealach a thaobh bidh. Bidh i an còmhnaidh ag iarraidh gun ith a cuid cloinne gu math, agus nach bi sìon air fhàgail air an truinnsear. Ach tha i fhèin air fàs nas sine agus chan eil càil aice airson na h-uimhir de bhiadh 's a b' àbhaist a bhith aice.
Uill, bha am pìos truisg a fhuair ise ro mhòr dhi 's mar sin, gheàrr i dheth pìos is chuir i barrachd truisg air an truinnsear agamsa. Cha robh mise a' gearan! Is nuair a thabhainn i tuilleadh truisg dhòmhsa bhon phìos aice-se - a bha fhathast mòr - ghabh mi e, ach, as dèidh greis, nuair a thabhainn i tuilleadh dhomh, b' fheudar dhomh aideachadh nach b' urrainn dhomh an còrr truisg a ghabhail. Bha mi cho làn ri ugh!
An uair sin chaidh mi a' pàigheadh. Gu h-àbhaisteach phàighinn lem chairt, ach gu neo-àbhaisteach, bha mi air mo chairtean fhàgail aig an taigh an oidhche ud. Ach bha airgead gu leòr nam sporan. Dh'innis an nighean a bh' aig an àitepàighidh a' phrìs dhomh is chuir mise m' airgead a-null thuice.
Thòisich mi an uair sin a' bruidhinn rim mhàthair. Ach nuair a sheall mi air ais chun na h-ighne, bha i gam choimhead - le fiamh a' gàire air a h-aghaidh. Bha mi air an t-airgead cheàrr a thoirt dhi. Bha barrachd airgid a dhìth!
Uill, chaidh mo cheann na bhroilleis 's cha b' urrainn dhomh cunntadh ceart. Nam chabhaig rot mi mo làmh dham sporan is chuir mi tuilleadh airgid a-null thuice. Ach sheall i orm a-rithist le gàire, is thuirt i gun robh i duilich, ach bha airgead fhathast a dhìth oirre. Bha mi air mo dhearg-nàrachadh, agus shìn mi barrachd airgid a-null thuice. Is mise a bha taingeil nach robh an còrr airgid a dhìth oirre às dèidh sin!
Bha am biadh math, ach cha bhi an aghaidh agam a thilleas ann tuilleadh!

[ANGELA] My mother and I went to the new restaurant, An Caladh, at the harbour, the night before last. We wanted to eat some nice, fresh fish.
Now, my mother is Highland old-school when it comes to food. She always wants her children to eat well and not to leave anything on our plates. But she has grown older and she doesn't have as large an appetite as she used to have.
Well, the piece of cod she got was too large for her so she cut a piece off it and put more cod onto my plate I wasn't complaining! And when she offered me even more cod from her portion - which was still large - I took it, but, after a while, when she offered me more, I was forced to admit that I couldn't take any more cod. I was as full as an egg!
Then I went to pay. Normally, I would pay with my card, but unusually, I had left my cards at home that night. But I had enough money in my purse. The girl at the pay station told me the price and I passed my money over to her.
Then I started talking to my mother. But when I looked back towards the girl, she was looking at me - with a hint of a smile on her face. I had given her the wrong amount of money. I needed more money!
Well, my head was a muddle and I couldn't count properly. In a rush, I stuck my hand into my purse and handed her some more money. But she looked at me again with a smile, and said she was sorry, but that she still needed more money. I was mortified, and I passed her some more money. I was so glad that no more money was needed after that!
The food was good, but I won't dare to show my face there again!
